Description

OTO offers a variety of services to assist in wetlands identification and management. We also provide advice about designing projects that will not need permits, and, if permits are needed, provide assistance in completing applications. Services we provide include:

  • Consultations regarding site development and management
  • Wetland delineation (state and federal)
  • Wetland habitat monitoring
  • Wetland impact assessments
  • Vernal pool surveys
  • Wildlife surveys
  • ACOE wetland Functions and Values Assessments
  • Rare, threatened, and endangered species surveys
  • Permitting
  • Compensatory wetland mitigation design

We help the project team achieve overall objectives by developing comfortable working relationships with owners, engineers, architects, and land planners.

Our wetland science experience includes: quantitatively evaluating plant communities; assessing hydric soil conditions; quantitatively characterizing surface water and groundwater hydrology; and identifying wetland resource areas. We have also conducted stream evaluations, including assessments of surface water hydrology, fish and amphibian communities, and benthic invertebrate assemblages.

We prepare permit applications pursuant to the Wetlands Protection Act including: Requests for Determinations of Applicability; Abbreviated Notices of Resource Area Determination; and Notices of Intent. Permitting has also been conducted under the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) and the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act (MESA). At the federal level we prepare Section 401 water quality certification permits, Section 404 dredge and fill permits and River and Harbor Act Section 10 permits.

Wetland compensatory mitigation construction monitoring services are also available, and can be tailored to project needs.
